Faith Formation

Encounter the Lord and live with JOY: Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last.

Welcome to the Faith Formation Department of St. Agnes Catholic Academy! This department, founded and developed by the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary, exists to accompany our students, families, and staff in their journey of faith.

Our Mission

“To provide a path for many hearts to encounter the Lord and live JOY—Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself last—through prayerful experience, knowledge, service, and human formation.”

Our Purpose

The purpose of Faith Formation at St. Agnes is to deepen our Catholic identity and integrate faith into every aspect of our school community through an overarching Catholic vision.

What We Do

The department oversees the faith formation of our students (PK–8), staff, and families. Religion classes for Grades 1–8 are taught by the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary—sisters, brothers, and priests. We offer:

  • School-wide retreats

  • Sacramental preparation

  • Daily and weekly prayer opportunities

  • Eucharistic Adoration and Mass

  • Marian consecrations, rosaries, and devotions

  • Resources and support for families seeking to grow in faith

  • Collaboration with committees and families to foster a united Catholic vision

Above all, our department is here for you—to pray with you, to accompany you, and to help you form your children into the saints they are called to be.

Please know of our constant prayers for you and your family. Do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or needs. We are one St. Agnes family. Let us continue building a civilization of love and life—beginning in our own school community and radiating outward.

About the Servants of the Pierced Hearts

Mother Adela Galindo, SCTJM, is the foundress of the Religious Community, the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Read her biography here to learn how this beautiful institute was born.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

Meaning & Symbolism

1. Heart
“The heart represents the seat of the affections and sentiments. The Sacred Scriptures reveal the infinite love of God who created us in His image—capable of love. Jesus confirmed this principal Commandment of God: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength (Mk 12:30).”

2. Jesus Holding His Heart in His Hand
By extending His Heart to us, Jesus is offering His love, but He does not force us to accept it.

“Behold the Heart which loves so much, yet is so little loved.” —Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

3. Wound & Precious Blood
After Jesus died on the Cross, “one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out” (Jn 19:34).
Through the piercing of Christ’s Heart, life was given to the Church.

  • The water represents grace and purification through Baptism.

  • The Blood represents the life, strength, and holiness we receive in the Eucharist.

“Enter into the Pierced Heart of Jesus. To enter means to draw near, to allow ourselves to touch and be touched by the mystery of His Love… the one who enters participates more closely in the effects of His love.”
Mother Adela Galindo, Foundress SCTJM

4. Cross
The Cross represents Christ’s Crucifixion—His ultimate sacrifice made freely out of love and obedience to the Father.

“Love requires sacrifice, and love that cannot suffer is not worthy of the name.” —St. Clare of Assisi

5. Flame
The flame symbolizes Christ’s burning love for us and His purifying fire that transforms hearts and burns away sin.

6. Crown of Thorns
This recalls Christ’s Passion and humility. Though He is King of Heaven and Earth, He accepted a crown of thorns out of love for us.

“Love can only be consoled with love.” —Mother Adela Galindo, Foundress SCTJM

Immaculate Heart of Mary

Meaning & Symbolism

1. Our Lady Offering Her Immaculate & Maternal Heart to Us
At Fatima, Our Lady said to Sr. Lucía:

“Do not be sad or afraid. My Heart will be your refuge and the sure path that will lead you to God.”
Her Heart is a sacred place of refuge in trials and spiritual battles, and the sure path to Christ. She invites us to consecrate ourselves to her Immaculate Heart to be formed in the likeness of Jesus.

2. Rosary
Our Lady invites us to pray the Rosary daily for peace and grace.

“The Holy Rosary is a powerful weapon. Use it with confidence, and you’ll be amazed at the results.” —St. Josemaría Escrivá

3. Scapular
In her apparition as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Mary offers the brown scapular as a sign of love and maternal protection.
Wearing the scapular reminds us to remain under her mantle and seek her intercession.

4. Sword
Although not physically pierced, Simeon prophesied her Heart would be:

“And you yourself a sword will pierce, so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed” (Lk 2:35).
The Church honors the Seven Sorrows of Mary, remembering how she lovingly allowed her Heart to be pierced for us.

5. Roses
Roses symbolize Mary’s purity and her Immaculate Conception—her total freedom from sin.
