Choosing Kindness: 5th Grade Reads Wonder

5th grade read Wonder, a powerful and heartwarming novel about August Pullman, a boy with a facial difference who attends school for the first time. Through Auggie’s experiences, and the perspectives of those around him, students explored what it means to be different and how our choices affect others.

The story reflects the importance of kindness, empathy, and acceptance. Students learned that everyone is fighting a battle we may not see, and that choosing kindness can make a big difference. Wonder encourages us to stand up for others, include everyone, and remember that being kind is more important than being right.

This book sparked meaningful conversations and reminded us all that “when given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”
