Our 5th graders are taking their science lesson on the water cycle out of the classroom and into their community. In a cross-curricular project between Science and STREAM, students are investigating a problem that directly affects their community and daily lives: flooding.
Our Bears had the privilege of hearing from Roland Samimy, Ph.D., Chief Resilience and Sustainability Officer for the Village of Key Biscayne. They learned about the vulnerabilities our low-lying barrier island faces, what causes flooding in our community, the solutions being planned and put in place, and how they can take action and make a difference. Our students came ready with lots of great questions!
Stay tuned to see the designs they dream up and create.
