The Holy Rosary: Learning to Love and Treasure Life
Dear St. Agnes Academy Parents and Families,
Blessings!
During October, as we celebrate the Holy Rosary and Respect Life Month, I share something close to my heart. These two observances belong together because the Rosary reminds us how precious every human life is to God and how deeply He loves us.
When I pray the Rosary, I am reminded that we are doing much more than repeating prayers. We are walking with Mary, contemplating the life of Jesus, and asking Him to shape our hearts.
In the Joyful Mysteries, Mary welcomes God's plan with her beautiful YES. During the Visitation, the unborn John the Baptist leaps for joy in Elizabeth's womb at the presence of Jesus. What a wonderful reminder that life is sacred from its very beginning!
The Luminous Mysteries show Jesus bringing hope, healing, and mercy to others. In the Sorrowful Mysteries, we contemplate His suffering and death, the greatest expression of His love for us. And through the Glorious Mysteries, we celebrate His Resurrection and the promise of eternal life.
As Scripture tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Dear parents, this is the message I hope our children will carry in their hearts.
Respecting life means defending human dignity from conception until natural death. But it also begins at home, in our everyday choices: speaking patiently, forgiving generously, welcoming someone who feels left out, and caring for those who suffer. Our children learn the value of life by watching how we treat one another.
This month, I encourage you to pray the Rosary together as a family. Even one decade before bedtime can become a beautiful moment. Invite your children to lead a prayer, offer an intention, or thank God for someone they love.
My prayer is that Mary will draw our families closer to Jesus and help us recognize the dignity of every person.
May the Rosary become more than a prayer in our hands. May it become God's love reflected in our lives.
With my prayers and affection,
Fr. jc
