SMARTLAB: Architectural Design and 3D Modeling with 3Doodler
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students are taking their creativity off the page and into the third dimension! Using 3Doodler pens, our students are learning the foundational principles of design and engineering by drawing in mid-air.
This innovative activity is a crucial bridge between art and STEM, teaching students:
Design Techniques: Mastering basic extrusion and shaping methods to build stable 3D forms.
Structural Integrity: Understanding concepts like load-bearing points and triangulation to construct robust 3D structures.
Rapid Prototyping: Learning to quickly model and iterate their designs, transforming a simple sketch into a finished physical object.
Spatial Reasoning: Developing the ability to visualize and translate a two-dimensional idea into a complex, multi-layered space.
By engaging with the 3Doodler, students aren't just creating art; they are acting as designers, architects, and engineers. They are experiencing the entire design process, from initial sketch to final build, which is essential for developing critical problem-solving and fine motor skills. This hands-on modeling prepares them for future work in digital fabrication, architecture, and advanced design technologies.
